"Internet Tax" to Pay for BBC Will Catch All Those Who Cancelled Their TV Licence

Government plans to force households to fund BBC through new online levy, with non-payers facing internet blackouts.

A leaked report seen by journalists from Bloomberg and others suggests that an expanding the tv licence to cover viewers of services such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.

The new tax would be enforced by new powers to prosecute those who attempt to dodge it. It is proposed that the tax could be linked to your IP address, the unique ID every router needs to join the internet. Failure to pay the new tax would result in your internet connection being 'switched off', with the measures not even needing to be signed off by a Magistrate to accomplish.

These discussions are understood to be taking place between the department for culture, media and sport and the office of the Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to sources.

An estimated 4.5 Million households have already cancelled the £169.50 a year licence, with that now increasing by 500,000 a year. According to the BBC the black and white licence is still available at just £57, with 4 people in the UK reportedly still using one.

A campaign in 2023 suggested by the BBC for a 'crackdown' on licence dodgers cost more to administer than it did in lost revenue but was deemed a success. Nearly 50,000 people a year are still prosecuted for not having a TV licence, including old and vulnerable people who are seen as 'soft targets'.

Licence-cancelling began to rise during Brexit when the BBC were happy to attack their own viewers if they didn't share their left-wing ideology. This ideology now doesn't just appear in biased news either, it has infested every aspect of the BBC's programming from drama to game shows.

Viewers have, quite rightly, rejected it entirely, they don't like it and therefore don't watch it, so why should they pay for it'? Moreover, why should the BBC receive money from viewers for a service they have absolutely nothing to do with?
