For more than a century, the story of vaccination has been told as a triumph.
It is cast as one of medicine’s crowning achievements — the scientific slaying of once-terrifying diseases, the steady march of progress from smallpox to polio to the modern age of mass immunisation. Today public health campaigns routinely echo the same old stock phrases: “vaccines save lives,” “the science is settled,” and “without vaccines, millions would die.”
But not everyone accepted this story when it was first being written. One of the most astonishing early dissenters was not a fringe voice, but one of the most celebrated scientific minds of the 19th century: Alfred Russel Wallace.
In 1889, Alfred Russel Wallace wrote a now long-forgotten book that disproved the entire vaccination lie. In that book Wallace simply destroys the myth that it was vaccinations that irradiated Smallpox and shows how clean water, better sanitation, and living conditions were the real reasons. He demonstrated how vaccinations had no effect on the disease at all. But worst than that, Wallace deduced that vaccines were responsible for thousands more deaths in the vaccinated group than in the unvaccinated.
Unbelievable copies of the book still reside in the libraries of both the Landon School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Wellcome Trust, and the Houses of Parliament library, that proves, without a shadow of doubt, that vaccines were are “useless and dangerous”.
Alfred Russel Wallace was no fringe voice, he was one of the most celebrated scientific minds of the 19th century and co-discoverer of natural selection, the man whose letter to Charles Darwin spurred On the Origin of Species. He was a towering figure in Victorian science — a naturalist, explorer, and statistician whose observations helped shape modern evolutionary theory. Yet in 1885, he turned his formidable intellect to a very different target: vaccination.
His book, Vaccination Proved Useless and Dangerous, Wallace revealed that the State’s vaccination programme was a failure, its statistics a fraud, and its compulsory Vaccination programme an assault on liberty itself. Far from protecting the population, he argued, vaccinations were both ineffective and dangerous.
In the book Wallace shows:
Smallpox deaths were already declining before vaccination became widespread.
Epidemics continued to occur in highly vaccinated districts.
Government statistics were manipulated to show benefits that did not exist.
Vaccination caused injury, illness, and death in countless children.
The state had no moral right to force a “dangerous and useless operation” on its citizens.
Wallace approached the subject of vaccination as he had evolution — through evidence, numbers, and methodical analysis. For more than a decade he pored over official health records, tracing smallpox deaths and vaccination rates. He found that mortality curves did not match the triumphant narrative of state medicine at all. The state was peddling a gargantuan lie, and he had the evidence to prove it.
Where vaccination rates were highest, epidemics still flared. Where they were lowest, deaths sometimes declined. To Wallace, this was proof that improvements in sanitation, clean water, and living conditions — not vaccination — were the real drivers seen in the fall in smallpox mortality.
And then there was the matter of compulsion. Vaccination in Victorian Britain was not optional. The state could prosecute parents for refusing to have their child vaccinated. To a man who had spent his career challenging authority, this was unacceptable.
Forty-five years of Registration Statistics, proving Vaccination to be both useless and dangerous. Having been led to enquire for myself A as to the effects of Vaccination in preventing or diminishing Smallpox, I have arrived at results as unexpected as they appear to me to be conclusive.
Conclusion from the Evidence:
The result of this brief enquiry may be thus summarised:
(i.) —Vaccination does not diminish Smallpox mortality, as shown by the 45 years of the Registrar-General’s statistics, and by the deaths from Small-pox of our “ re-vaccinated ” soldiers and sailors being as numerous as those of the male population of the same ages of several of our large towns, although the former are picked, healthy men, while the latter include many thousands living under the most unsanitary conditions.
(2.) —While thus utterly powerless for good, vaccination is a certain cause of disease and death in many cases, and is the probable cause of about 10,000 deaths annually by five inoculable diseases of the most terrible and disgusting character, which have increased to this extent, steadily, year by year, since vaccination has been enforced by penal laws !
(3.) —The hospital statistics, showing a greater mortality of the unvaccinated than of the vaccinated, have been proved to be untrustworthy ; while the conclusions drawn from them are shown to be necessarily false.
If these facts are true, or anything near the truth, the enforcement of vaccination by fine and imprisonment of unwilling parents, is a cruel and criminal despotism, which it behoves all true friends of humanity to denounce and oppose at every opportunity.
Such legislation, involving as it does, our health, our liberty, and our very lives, is too serious a matter to be allowed to depend on the misstatements of interested officials or the dogmas of a professional clique. Some of the misstatements and some of the ignorance on which you have relied, have been here exposed.
The statistical evidence on which alone a true judgment can be founded, is as open to you as to any doctor in the land. We, therefore, demand that you, our representatives, shall fulfil your solemn duty to us in this matter, by devoting to it some personal investigation and painstaking research ; and if you find that the main facts as here stated are substantially correct, we call upon you to undo without delay the evil you have done.
We, therefore, solemnly urge upon you THE IMMEDIATE REPEAL OF THE INIQUITOUS PENAL LAWS BY WHICH YOU HAVE FORCED UPON US A DANGEROUS AND USELESS OPERATION—AN OPERATION WHICH HAS ADMITTEDLY CAUSED MANY DEATHS, WHICH IS PROBABLY THE CAUSE OF GREATER MORTALITY THAN SMALL-POX ITSELF, BUT WHICH CANNOT BE PROVED TO HAVE EVER SAVED A SINGLE HUMAN LIFE.
This book remember, was written in 1889, and yet it could have been written today. What’s more, those behind pushing Covid vaccines (Wellcome Trust, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine etc) knew that only too well that their narrative was based on a giant lie. More than that, they’ve had the evidence for nearly 150 years and they buried it.
