Britain’s Ugliest Weekend: The Notting Hill Carnival

For three days every year the Notting Hill Carnival turns London into an open sewer. Every August Bank Holiday the streets reek of sweat, piss and curried goat. The Carnival, sold to us as a joyous “celebration of Caribbean culture,” is, in reality, a yearly showcase of extreme violence, debauchery, and gross indecency. It's Britain’s ugliest weekend and it has no place in a civilised society like this one.
Every year hundreds of violent crimes are recorded at the carnival, with rapes, stabbings, machete attacks and, increasingly shootings, now routine. In 2023, official police data within the carnival zone logged: 70 cases of violence with injury, 31 other violent incidents, 46 sexual offences, and 47 robberies. These are not 'isolated incidents' These are the documented realities of this shit-show year after year.

The death toll alone should have been enough to shut it down decades ago. Murders have scarred the event in 1987, 1991, 2000 (two separate killings), 2004, 2022, and two more only last year. That is eight murders – at a single cultural event. Yet politicians, activists and media mouthpieces dismiss this bloodshed with the tired refrain of 'mostly peaceful.' Imagine trying to describe Glastonbury or Wimbledon in those terms if multiple people had been butchered in broad daylight.
Policing this barbarism costs the taxpayer more than £11 million every single year. FOI data shows £11.75m was poured into officer time, overtime, vehicles and operations for 2023 alone. And still, despite the vast manpower deployed, stabbings, assaults and rapes take place in the middle of London’s streets. In the weeks leading up to this year’s Carnival, police seized 11 firearms and over 40 knives in raids directly linked to the event. Around 100 arrests were made before a single drum was beaten.
And what is it all in aid of? We are told this is a 'celebration of Caribbean heritage,' and a 'proud legacy of the Windrush generation'. In practice, it means fat half-naked women twerking in front of kids, men waving machetes and knives as if they were carnival props, and the streets lined with the stench of vomit, urine, and discarded jerk chicken bones.

'Music' thunders out at ear-bleeding levels, while rival gangs use the cover of chaos to stab-up rival gangs. If this is the pinnacle of Black British culture, then we should take it as a warning, not a celebration.
Contrast this carnival of carnage with a celebration of English culture: the Last Night of the Proms and you see just how totally uncivilised the NHC truly is: That, too, is a cultural institution – but one rooted in dignity, discipline, artistry and genuine joy. No stabbings, machete attacks, rapes or murders have ever happened and never will.
The Proms is a festival of refinement, where the brilliance of composers spanning millennia is honoured. Symphony, opera, choral work – it is the very height of human culture, a testament to the discipline of artistry and the elegance of tradition. The Notting Hill Carnival, by comparison, is a tribal frenzy of violence and indecency.
And yet, year after year, the Carnival is lauded by politicians desperate to score 'diversity points.' Local authorities lecture the public on how 'inclusive' and 'vibrant' it all is, gaslighting Londoners into pretending the stabbings, rapes, and murders are all just part of the fun. Meanwhile, the Proms is increasingly derided as 'too white,' 'too old,' or 'too traditional' – as though excellence, beauty and refinement were now sins to be abolished.
The truth is brutally simple: the Notting Hill Carnival is a gross showcase of an alien culture that is violent, grotesque, and backward. It has no place in Britain, and never did.
