Clarkson for Parliament? TV motormouth Jeremy Clarkson sparks frenzy with hint he could TOPPLE Ed Miliband in bombshell MP bid

The Clarkson’s Farm star teases a sensational switch from tractors to the Commons, taking aim at Net Zero zealot Miliband in Doncaster showdown.

Jeremy Clarkson, the outspoken TV icon known for his petrolhead antics on Top Gear and his hilarious farming mishaps on Amazon’s Clarkson’s Farm, has sent shockwaves through Westminster by hinting he might swap his muddy wellies for a seat in Parliament.

The 65-year-old motoring maestro, who has never shied away from blasting politicians, appeared to throw his hat into the ring for a potential clash with Energy Secretary Ed Miliband at the next General Election.  In a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), Clarkson quipped about challenging the Labour bigwig in his Doncaster North constituency, leaving fans and foes alike buzzing with excitement.

Could this be the ultimate gear shift? Clarkson, a self-proclaimed Net Zero sceptic, has long railed against what he calls ‘bonkers’ green policies that he claims are crippling British farmers. From his Diddly Squat farm in the Cotswolds, he’s become a folk hero for rural Britain, battling bureaucracy and bad weather in his hit series that’s captivated millions.

But now, the former BBC star seems ready to take the fight to the heart of government. ‘He says he wants to cut taxes and increase spending by £150 billion. Huh?’ Clarkson fired off in a swipe at Reform UK’s Nigel Farage, before turning his sights on Miliband.  The post has sparked a wildfire of speculation, with multiple politicians queuing up to back the Cotswolds cowboy’s campaign.

A senior Tory insider didn’t mince words, declaring Clarkson ‘welcome’ in the Conservative Party amid his ‘MP announcement’.  Imagine that – the man who once punched a producer over a cold steak now punching above his weight in the Commons! Sources say his no-nonsense style could resonate with voters fed up with slick politicians.

Ed Miliband, the former Labour leader turned eco-warrior, might be sweating more than a bit. The 55-year-old, infamous for his ‘Ed Stone’ gaffe and bacon sandwich blunder, holds Doncaster North with a comfortable majority. But a Clarkson candidacy? That could turn the safe seat into a high-octane battleground.

Locals in Doncaster are already divided. One resident told The Telegraph: "Clarkson could win here – people love his straight-talking."  Another quipped, "It’s Clarkson vs Chaos – bring on the popcorn!’

Polls suggest the broadcaster’s popularity could shake up the vote, especially among disgruntled farmers hit by Labour’s inheritance tax hikes and green mandates.

Clarkson’s political flirtations aren’t new. He’s previously joked about running for office, even eyeing Number 10 in jest. But this feels different. With his massive following – over 8 million on X alone – he could harness the same anti-establishment fury that propelled Donald Trump to office.

Critics, however, are revving up their engines. Left-wing commentators slam him as ‘out of touch’, while environmentalists fear his scepticism on climate policies could derail Net Zero goals.  One Twitter user fumed: ‘Clarkson in Parliament? That’s like putting a bull in a china shop!’

Yet, supporters are ecstatic. GB News hailed it as a ‘bid to boot out Miliband’, with fans flooding social media with memes of Clarkson in a suit, tractor in tow.  Even Farage got a Clarkson barb, with the TV star mocking his economic plans as illogical.

If Clarkson does run, it could be the most entertaining election since… well, ever! Picture heated debates: Miliband droning on about wind farms while Clarkson roars about real farming woes. Would he join the Tories, Reform, or go independent? The rumour mill is in overdrive.

One thing’s for sure – Westminster needs a shake-up, and who better than the king of controversy? As Clarkson himself might say: ‘And on that bombshell…’
